6.  Educational Qualifications:

 

(a)    Received the Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship and carried out Post-Doctoral Research in the Department of Naval Architecture, University of Tokyo, Japan for a period of seven months (from 1-7-1987 to 31-1-1988). Specialized in Marine Hydrodynamics.

(b)   Obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka in December 1982. Specialized in Fluid Mechanics.

(c)    Obtained the degree of Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka in April 1973. Specialized in Fluid Mechanics.

(d)   Obtained the degree of Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Aeronautical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in April 1969. Specialized in Aerodynamics.

(e)    Passed the Diploma  in Japanese Examination of the University of Dhaka held in May 1981.

(f)     Passed the Senior Certificate Examination in Japanese held in the University of Dhaka in May 1980.

(g)    Passed the Junior Certificate Examination in Japanese held in the University of Dhaka in May 1979.

(a)    Published more than 100 research papers in various national and international journals and proceedings of conferences.

(a)    Served as a Lecturer in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka during the period from 5-4-1973 to 9-8-1977.

(b)   Served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka during the period from 10-8-1977 to 11-9-1983.

(c)    Served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka during the period from 12-9-1983 to 30-6-1989.

(d)   Served as a Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka during the period from 1-7-1989 to date.

(e)    Visiting Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture, University of Tokyo, Japan for a period of seven months (from 1-7-1987 to 31-1-1988).

(b)    Served as the Head of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka for a period of 4 years (from 18-7-1989 to 7-7-1993).

(c)    Served as the Head of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka for a period of 2 years   (from 27-7-1995 to 27-7-1997).

(d)    Served as the Provost of Shahid Smrity Hall, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka during the period from 25-11-2002 to 27-9-2006.

(e)    Served as the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology, Dhaka for a period of 2 years (from 8-1-2006 to 13-1-2008).

(d)   Served as a Member of the Editorial Board of JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING for a period of six years (from January, 1996 to December, 2001). The journal is published by the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh.

(e)    Served as the Convener of the Editorial Board of BANGLADESH JOURNAL OF COMPUTER AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, Published by the Bangladesh Computer Society (1999-2000).

(f)     Served as an Editor of the PROCEEDINGS OF BSME-ASME INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THERMAL ENGINEERING, Organized by Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers in collaboration with American Society of Mechanical Engineers in Dhaka in December 2001 and also in January 2004.

 

 

11. Awards:

 

(a)    Received the University Grants Commission Award for the year 2001 in recognition of my original research work in the field of Engineering.

(b)   Received an award of the Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science for the Best Research Presentation during the 19th Annual Bangladesh Science Conference held in Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka in 1996.

(c)    Received the Certificate of Merit from the Institution of Engineers, India for the paper entitled, “Weather and passenger crowding criteria on stability of inland passenger vessels” in 1994.

(d)   Received the Research Fellowship and the Commemorative Medal of the Matsumae International Foundation, Japan in recognition of my excellence in research in January 1988.

(e)    Winner of the Best Speaker’s Award in the Japanese Language Speech Contest organized by the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh in 1980 and also in 1981.

 

12. Special Invitations:

 

(a)    I was invited to Japan for attending the Special Training Course in Japanese Language sponsored and conducted by the Japan Foundation in March 1981. This invitation was accorded to me in recognition of my excellence in Japanese.

(b)   I was invited to deliver a lecture at the Fifth Chittagong Conference on Mathematical Physics held in the Research Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences, University of Chittagong during 23-25 January, 1999. I talked on:  Hydrodynamic Analysis of Harbour Resonance.

(c)    I was invited to deliver a lecture at the Sixth Chittagong Conference on Mathematical Physics held in the Research Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences, University of Chittagong during 8-10 January, 2001. I talked on:  Natural Oscillations of Water in a Circular Basin.

(d)    I was invited to deliver a lecture at the International Conference on Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics held in Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet in January 2005. I talked on:  Wave-Induced Vibration of Fixed Offshore Structures.

(e)    I was invited to deliver a lecture at the Eleventh Chittagong Conference on Mathematical Physics held in the Research Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences, University of Chittagong on 14-16 March, 2009. I talked on:  Natural Oscillations of Water in a Rectangular Basin.

(a)    Attended a Workshop on Coastal Zone Management, Organized by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka and Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, held on 29-30 October 2002 at BUET, Dhaka.

(b)   Attended the International Short Course on Small Hydro Power, Organized by  Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka and University of Roorkee, India, held on 6-9 May 1999 at BUET, Dhaka.

(c)    Participated in the Workshop on Dredging and Scour, Organized by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka and Strathclyde University, U.K., held on 3-9 December 1996 at BUET, Dhaka.

(a)    Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the International Conference on Marine Technology (MARTEC 2010) to be held in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka during 11-12 December 2010.

(c)    Vice-Chairman of National Oceanographic and Maritime Institute since 1997 to date.

(d)   President of Section VII (Engineering Sciences and Technology) of Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science for a period of four years (2007-2010).

(j)     Chairman of the Seminar Committee formed by Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers for the Seminar on Industrial Water Treatment Technology held in Dhaka in January 2003.

(k)   Member of the committee formed by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board for preparing the syllabus of Diploma-in-Marine Technology in 2004. 

(l)      Prepared the syllabus of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering for the Bangladesh Civil Service Examination at the request of Bangladesh Public Service Commission in 2005.

(m)  Member of the Academic Council of Islamic University of Technology, Dhaka for a period of two years (2007-2008).

(n)    Member of the Committee constituted to examine the proposal submitted by Malaysian Aviation Training Academy (MATA) regarding the Joint Degree Programme of Islamic University of Technology, Dhaka and MATA (2007-2008).

15. Postgraduate Research:

 

(a)    Served as the Convener of the Examination Committee for the thesis entitled, “Studies on Viscous Fluid Flows past Rigid Bodies” for the award of the Degree of Ph.D. The thesis was submitted by Nazneen Akhtar in the Research Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences, University of Chittagong in September 2008.

(b)   Served as a Member of the Doctoral Committee for the thesis entitled, “Conjugate Effects of Stress Work and Conduction on Magneto-hydrodynamic Natural Convection” for the award of the Degree of Ph.D. The thesis was submitted by Md. Mahmud Alam in the Department of Mathematics, BUET in July 2007.

(c)    Served as a Member of the Doctoral Committee for the thesis entitled, “Displacement Potential Approach to Solution of Elasticity Problems of Orthotropic Composite Structures” for the award of the Degree of Ph.D. The thesis was submitted by Sankar Kumar Deb Nath in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, BUET in January 2007.

(d)   Served as the Supervisor of 8 (eight) postgraduate theses leading to the degree of Master of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
